Gov. Greg Abbott announced today he has waived the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness or STAAR, testing requirements for the current school year in light of widespread closures due to the new coronavirus pandemic.
He has also requested that federal testing requirements be waived for the 2019-2020 school year, according to a statement released this morning by his office.

AUSTIN — Governor Greg Abbott today announced that he has waived the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) testing requirements for the 2019-2020 school year. Additionally, Governor Abbott is requesting that the Department of Education (DOE) waive federal testing requirements for the 2019-2020 school year.
